Ahead of Louisville City FC’s Salute to Heroes Night on Saturday, the club is highlighting Adam Boren, U.S. Army veteran and program manager for the LouCity & Racing Foundation, Soccer Holding’s charitable arm.
As the program manager, Boren helps plan, coordinate and execute programming to help make soccer, along with the life skills the game brings, more accessible to all parts of our community.
“I want to help bring the beautiful game to every child that wants to play,” Boren said. “There are many barriers to playing the game at a more organized level. We want to break down those barriers.”
Before joining the Foundation, Boren served for 24 years in the Army, including 11 combat deployments. Since joining the Foundation, he likes to take lessons he learned from the military into his current role.
“To be part of something bigger than yourself and the desire to make a difference is something that didn’t end when I retired from the Army,” he explained. “I wanted a purpose and a mission.
“In the Army, we sometimes referred to ourselves as a ‘team of teams.’ I can’t think of a better description for the group I work with at Soccer Holdings. Our Foundation is one of those teams, supported by our soccer clubs and the front office. I never thought I would belong to something that resembled my time in the Army. I was wrong and very happy about it!”
For Boren, it is important to recognize the work of fellow veterans in the Louisville community to help inspire others.
“There are so many members of our community that have spent time as or are currently servant leaders,” he said. “These people are woven into the fabric of our community, and we are the better for it. We are strengthened by it.”
Tickets to Saturday’s Louisville game are available at LouCity.com/Heroes, via SeatGeek or calling (502) 568-2489. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Lynn Family Stadium.
