Highlights in Purple: Gonzalez’s fourth and final goal of his first season with LouCity came at a crucial moment as he scored a later game winner against Miami FC in the opening round of the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs. A former loan to LouCity, the forward signed on as a permanent player entering 2022 and made 22 starts to tally 3 goals and 2 assists on the season.
Before Louisville City FC: Gonzalez made the move from his native Spain to the United States in 2016 to play collegiately at NCAA Division II Mercyhurst University in Erie, Penn. After one season, Gonzalez transferred and found his footing at the NCAA Division 1 level at SIU Edwardsville, where he was coached by future LouCity Academy Director Mario Sanchez and was named 2019 Mid-American Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year. The midfielder went 76th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft to LAFC. He wound up signing with the Portland Timbers, joined their USL side and made his professional debut on Aug. 3, 2020, in a 4-0 victory over the Tacoma Defiance. In his one season in Portland, he poured in 8 goals across 10 appearances during an abridged campaign.
