2024: Dia, who returned to Louisville for a third season in purple, also signed a new contract with the club during the summer.
Last season: Despite having his season cut short due to injury in August, Dia still totaled 3 assists, 35 interceptions and 38 clearances.
Highlights in purple: Dia quickly established himself as LouCity’s left back of choice during the 2022 season. He ranked second on the team in tackles won (31) at a 73.8 percent success rate, tied for second in interceptions (41), ranked second in key passes (41) and third in minutes played (2,723).
Before Louisville City: Dia won an Atlantic Coast Conference title and qualified for two NCAA tournaments during his collegiate years at Clemson. Sporting KC selected Dia 20th overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, and he also went on to play for the Montreal Impact before three years with Phoenix Rising FC. Dia was part of three Rising FC playoff teams, including the 2018 squad that won a Western Conference title. The left-footer went all 90 minutes against LouCity in that year’s league final — a 1-0 City victory. Dia went on to be named Phoenix’s Defender of the Year in both 2018 and 2019. The latter season, Rising FC set an all-time American professional soccer record with 20 straight league wins from May 10 to Sept. 14. Dia started in 18 of those victories.
