Louisville City FC hosts Ottawa Fury FC Saturday night at Slugger Field in a battle of Eastern Conference foes.
Ottawa, off to its best start in recent memory, is bringing a dangerous club to the city vs. a LouCity squad still hampered by significant injuries.
Here are three things you need to know:
1. LouCity Momentum
For Louisville City, Saturday night will be about building on the momentum found in the waning minutes of last Saturday’s draw at Tampa Bay. Down 1-0 for most of the match, LouCity’s Magnus Rasmussen kept possession alive in the box just long enough to ping a ball off a Rowdies defender to Abdou Thiam who buried it into the back of the net in the 88′.
And while it wasn’t a win for LouCity, the draw provided City with a much-needed point and a chance to come back to Louisville to get a week closer to healthy.
2. Injuries still an issue
LouCity played the Tampa Bay Rowdies without veteran forwards Luke Spencer (hamstring), Brian Ownby (knee) and George Davis IV (hamstring) and without midfield captain Paolo DelPiccolo (midsection). Forward Richards Ballard and goalkeeper Chris Hubbard have not played yet this season. LouCity also saw limited minutes from creative midfielder Sunny Jane.
There’s good news and bad news for LouCity this week as Jane has returned to near 100 percent, but backup goalkeeper Tim Dobrowolski is out with a calf injury. Coach John Hackworth had to bring in a backup goalkeeper named Casey Clark to fill the GK2 spot for Saturday’s match.
3. Ottawa is improved
The Fury have never beaten Louisville City in four matches, and have only tallied a point in the series history. Ottawa appears tougher than previous seasons. The Fury achieved two wins faster than at any point in their club history, dating back to their previous best start which was in the first six weeks of the 2014 NASL season.
Ottawa is a high-possession team who created 18 shots last week against Loudoun, 12 of which were in the first half and seven on target.
