Louisville City FC to Visit Fort Knox for Meet-and-Greet with Army Family Members & Intrasquad Scrimmage

LOUISVILLE (February 14, 2018) – Louisville City Football Club and the United States Army Garrison – Fort Knox are excited to announce today a planned visit from head coach James O’Connor and the entire LouCity squad to the Fort Knox Kentucky Army Installation in Fort Knox, Kentucky on Tuesday, February 27.

Forming an unprecedented relationship with some of America’s finest, LouCity will arrive for a full day of team-building activities that will allow the squad to experience various military demonstrations as well as test their character in an afternoon session at the Dunagan Team Development Course on-site.

After the day’s activities have come to conclusion, the LouCity squad will be made available for a meet-and-greet with various members of the Army, signing autographs and taking pictures at Fort Knox Turf Field. The team will then participate in an intrasquad scrimmage at the turf facility at 5:00 P.M. before departing Fort Knox.

“We are thrilled to work with the U.S. Army at Fort Knox and to learn more about their accomplishments, and most importantly, to thank them all for their service,” said O’Connor. “This will be an excellent opportunity for the lads to gain some insight on a number of different levels and to work together in such a rare opportunity.”

Preseason Keys: Mentality

For this LouCity squad under head coach James O’Connor, preseason is a daunting, grueling, two-week stretch that once again reared its ugly head as the team arrived at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL last Sunday evening. For defenders Sean Totsch and Paco Craig, though, the importance of these two weeks and everything they encompass is what helps prep them for another run in 2018.

“Every day, we give everything we have here,” said Totsch. “You wake up in the morning and you’re sore – it may be difficult to get out of bed – but you know that you’re going to get out here and play with these guys and you’re able to get through it with them.”

Last year, LouCity reached the top of the USL after winning the Eastern Conference regular season and stretching an unbeaten run to seven games in pursuit of the 2017 USL Cup. Totsch and Craig credit last year’s hard work – including that difficult preseason – for helping them reach their goals as a team.

“From day one, the type of mentality that we were told we needed to have was always about the team,” said Craig. “Day in and day out, the emphasis was on how solid we could be and were as a unit – not just the back five or the back three – but for the whole team. It was about all 11 of us on the field, all 18 of us in the squad, and all 20 of us throughout the season.”

That said, ask either of them and they’ll be quick to say that last year is an afterthought. Their work has only just begun ahead of the longest season in USL history, but the pair are primed to put in a shift.

“I’m just trying to do my job the best I can every day. That’s the mentality. I need to take care of what the team needs and what I need every day and everything else falls in line,” said Totsch.

Along the same lines, Craig emphasizes that, once again, no player is above the rest and that they will work together – and only together – to fight for what’s to come.

“I really only focus on the collective goal because as long as we stitch and stay focused on the process as a team, then all the individual stuff will come afterwards as a result,” said the Londoner. “The personal stuff is just a byproduct of what we focus on, which is the success of the team.”

Now through one full week at the impeccable performance training center in Florida, the squad is looking to continue building on that foundation – the one based on the expectations set by O’Connor from the first minute they arrive.

“All of this work is about building the platform for us to step another step higher until we’re as high as we go,” said Craig.

LouCity begins the 2018 season on Saturday, March 17, with kickoff against Nashville SC slated for 3:00 P.M.

Louisville City FC Finalizes Transfer of Mark-Anthony Kaye to Los Angeles Football Club

LOUISVILLE (February 5, 2018) – Louisville City Football Club has transferred midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye to MLS side LAFC, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

“We’re obviously really pleased that Mark-Anthony has been able to get this opportunity,” said head coach James O’Connor. “He’s worked very hard throughout his time here and I think it’s important that we thank him for all his efforts. He’s a great young man and is someone we hope goes on to have a long and successful career in MLS.”

Kaye, 23, joins LAFC after two years with LouCity, starting in 30 games over 50 appearances across all competitions. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Kaye joined the club in 2015 after one season with Toronto FC II in their first year of play.

The playmaker has made five appearances for the Canadian Men’s National Team since his debut for the senior team in June 2017.

Louisville City FC Eyes Corporate Partnership with Visionworks

LOUISVILLE (February 1, 2018) – Before beginning the regular season in March, Louisville City Football Club has seen the road to new territory on the corporate partnerships side by introducing Visionworks, the third largest retail optical chain in the United States, as the “Official Eye Care Provider in the Field of Optometry” and jersey-back sponsor for the “Boys in Purple” on a two-year agreement.

As part of the negotiation, Visionworks is designated as the official jersey-back sponsor for the 2018 USL season, with the eye care provider’s logo debuting on the club’s kits starting on Saturday, March 17, when LouCity hosts expansion side Nashville SC for the inaugural game of the year (7:30 P.M. at Slugger Field).

Louisville City FC Confirms International Call-Up for Midfielder Devon "Speedy" Williams

LOUISVILLE (January 23, 2018) – Following a pair of international call-ups in 2017, Louisville City FC midfielder Devon “Speedy” Williams has once again been asked to don the Black, Yellow, and Green for the Jamaica Football Federation when the squad travels to Turkey to face South Korea in an international friendly on January 30.

“Any time you’re representing your country, it’s always a big deal. For me to continue to grow my status as a player and to continue to get called up, it’s a great thing. I give thanks for every call I get,” said Williams.

Jamaica’s senior side will first face Romanian professional side, CS Gaz Metan Medias (ROM 1) on Saturday, January 27, before a match against South Korea, set for Tuesday, January 30. Both matches will be played in Turkey, according to the JFF.

The LouCity midfielder earned his stripes in last year’s trips to Canada and Saudi Arabia. Coming off the bench in Jamaica’s 0-2 loss to the Canucks in September 2017, Williams then started and featured for nearly an hour in Jamaica’s 5-2 loss to World Cup-bound Saudi Arabia in October 2017.

“Games are always important,” stated Williams. “Training is good and well, but when you’re playing games and getting that match fitness it is always important.”

Williams will join fellow U.S.-based Jamaican internationals Kemar Lawrence (New York Red Bulls, MLS), Oniel Fisher (Seattle Sounders, MLS), Je-Vaughn Watson (New England Revolution, MLS), Owayne Gordon (loan – San Antonio FC, USL), and Dane Kelley (Reno 1869 FC, USL).

“It helps to work with other guys in the league. Most of us that have been called up are all pretty good friends. It makes everything a little bit easier,” said Williams. “I’ll be back right in time to go to preseason in Florida [on February 4].”

Louisville City FC Learns 2018 USL Season Schedule

LOUISVILLE (January 19, 2018) – With the release of the 2018 USL schedule today, LouCity fans can begin marking off the days on the club’s 31-week calendar ahead of March’s season opener and the regular season finale in October.

2018 Season Ticket packages remain on sale starting at $12 per game, which include all 17 regular season home games at Slugger Field and exclusive pre-sale to Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup games (to be determined). As the full 34-game schedule becomes public, information will soon be available on single-game ticket purchases, as well as group ticket information, for the entirety of the schedule. “When you look at this year’s alignment, it’s an extremely competitive conference. With Nashville and Indy joining, the USL is becoming an incredibly exciting league and we’re looking forward to some of these local rivalries, including Cincinnati. It’s a soccer hotbed that we can’t wait to compete in this year,” said head coach James O’Connor.

The season starts off with a bang for LouCity as the club hosts four consecutive home games in the month of March before traveling to local rival FC Cincinnati for the first road trip of the year in April. A back-and-forth April sees LouCity swap road and home dates before a packed month of May send the “Boys in Purple” to all three of Indianapolis (May 5), Nashville (May 13), and Cincinnati (May 26) with a home date squeezed in between.

The dog days of August will test O’Connor’s crew most heavily as they prepare for a trip from Indy Eleven to open the month. Then, a visit to New York Red Bulls II (Aug. 10) leads into a second home match against Nashville SC (Aug. 18), before trips to Charlotte (Aug. 22) and Richmond (Aug. 25) round out a trying four games in 16 days. To wrap up the year, LouCity will fly to Toronto (Oct. 5) before it plays host to Indy Eleven in the regular season finale (Oct. 13).

In all, the “Boys in Purple” will feature in four midweek contests – two home & two away – with a pair of Sunday contests to add. Plus, LouCity fans can start their weekend the right way with three Friday matches to lead into the league action.

Details on broadcast and live streaming for the 2018 season will be announced in the coming weeks as the USL ramps up coverage for the biggest season in league history.

Louisville City FC Locks In Five-Week Preseason Slate

LOUISVILLE (January 18, 2018) – A familiar LouCity squad will push ahead towards the 2018 USL Season with a five-week preseason calendar beginning on February 4. In head coach James O’Connor’s fourth season in charge, the “Boys in Purple” will play their first preseason match in Louisville on February 24.

The squad will first fly south to Bradenton, Florida for a two-week stint at IMG Academy on February 4. The visit marks the third time in as many seasons to the renowned sport training destination, where LouCity will conduct a private training camp.

Upon returning, LouCity kicks off a four-match slate in the state of Kentucky, with a preseason opener scheduled against Young Harris College on Saturday, February 24, with the match serving as a 2018 Season Ticket Member exclusive – admission free, closed to the public. The run of games leads up to LouCity’s 2018 USL opener on Saturday, March 17 against Nashville SC.

“For us, the preseason goes in blocks. The first two weeks is conditioning and prep, the second two weeks is about our patterns and tactics, and that final piece is putting everything together and staying injury free,” said O’Connor, who will lead the team’s preseason charge alongside assistant coaches Daniel Byrd and Thabane Sutu.

Louisville City FC Pens Defender Alexis Souahy

LOUISVILLE (January 15, 2018) – Louisville City FC can today announce the signing of defender Alexis Souahy, with the Frenchman joining pending federation registration. Per club policy, terms of the contract will not be released.

Souahy comes to Louisville after three years at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Acting as the team’s “Ironman,” Souahy started every game during his career as a Falcon, playing all but 29 seconds and totaling over 5,000 minutes. A team captain for BGSU in 2017, the defender earned multiple accolades, including a spot on the All-MAC Second Team and the All-Ohio First Team, as selected by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA).

“What LouCity has done in the league in their first three seasons is something that anyone sees when you look at the club. They have shown their success as a team,” said Souahy. “What made this club the one for me is the quality of the organization, the coaches, and last but not least, the fans. There is such a great environment and atmosphere on game days. I’m excited to get down to the City.”

Born on January 13, 1995, in Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis, France, Souahy’s career kick-started with Le Havre Athletic Club, where he helped guide the side to fourth-place finishes in both the U19 National Championship and the Championnat de France amateur 2 (FRA 5). Graduating from Saint Joseph (’13) in Le Havre, France, Souahy spent his freshman year at Notre Dame College, starting all 18 matches for the Falcons and helping his school to an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships.

The defender will be the second addition in defense for head coach James O’Connor after LouCity completed the signing of Pat McMahon from FC Cincinnati in December.

“I am looking forward to helping the team achieve as many things as they did in the previous season and more,” said Souahy. “I loved Coach O’Connor’s personality. We talked about the club, the culture of the team, and of course, our goals for this year. The team culture aspect is what influenced me most, which is obviously a major part of why the team has made so much success.”

Preseason for the “Boys in Purple” will commence on February 5 with the squad returning to Louisville before their two-week stint at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Following the club’s 2017 USL Cup-winning campaign, the 2018 season kicks off on Saturday, March 17 when LouCity hosts expansion side Nashville SC in their inaugural match.
