Louisville City FC and Detroit City FC closed the 2026 USL Championship regular season with a 0-0 draw on Saturday night before 9,859 at Lynn Family Stadium.
It marked the fourth meeting of the season between the two clubs, across all competitions. Of the four meetings, three ended in 0-0 draws.
Now, LouCity (13-9-8, 47 points) turns its attention to the USL Championship Playoffs and next week’s Eastern Conference Quarterfinal, which the club will host at Lynn Family Stadium.
Louisville, the No. 4 seed, will host the fifth-seeded Pittsburgh Riverhounds, the defending USL Championship title winners. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

“All eyes now on Friday,” LouCity interim head coach Simon Bird said. “But as I say, we’re buzzing to be in the playoffs, buzzing to be at home in front of our crowd. We’re excited.”
Saturday’s game was tight and defensive. Detroit boasts the league’s stingiest defense — conceding just 21 goals over 30 regular-season games — and it showed. LouCity, which rotated six players into the starting lineup, managed just six shots on the night, with only one on target.
Detroit’s attack was only slightly more potent, generating eight shots with three on target. In the end, though, the two sides combined for just 1.01 expected goals and three big changes, per Opta.
Individually, midfielder Babacar Niang led LouCity offensively, taking a team-high three shots.
“What’s clear today was that in the final third, we really lacked a lot,” Bird said. “Got some really good builds into the final third, some really good build-outs, build-ups. But then if you can’t execute where it matters, then it’s all irrelevant.”
Defensively, the clean sheet is the fourth in the club’s last five games for LouCity. With the postseason looming, the boys in purple are finding their defensive fortitude at the right time.
Brandon Dayes, the 17-year-old defender, was strong in his first start since Sept. 19. The LouCity Academy product won possession seven times to lead the team.
“In my opinion, we were all over them. I think we dominated the game on all fronts, and I’m a little frustrated we couldn’t put one away, but I’m glad for the clean sheet, and we have to learn from it and move on,” Dayes said.
Now, with the regular season behind them, LouCity will turn its attention to the USL Championship Playoffs, and the opportunity to chase a third title for the club.
And the team is feeling confident about its chances.
“I think everyone came out with the same mentality that these next four games are ours,” goalkeeper Ryan Schewe said. “I love where the team’s at. You know, when we’re our best, no one’s better. And I really think we can continue that in to the playoffs.”
“I think there’s a genuine excitement within the group,” LouCity interim head coach Simon Bird said. “We’ve been through a lot this year. We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs. We’ve learned from those. And I think we’re playing some really good football…
“Overall, we’re really pleased with where we are,” Bird added. “We’ve got a really good squad here that can go on and win this whole thing.”
