Louisville City FC interim head coach Simon Bird has made one change to the starting lineup from Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup win over Major League Soccer’s Austin FC, as LouCity hosts Sporing Club Jacksonville at 5 p.m.
The game coincides with Thunder Over Louisville festivities on the Louisville waterfront. For tickets and more information, visit LouCity.com/Thunder.
Carlos Moguel Jr. will make his first league start in the game as the lone change. Moguel has started twice this season in the U.S. Open Cup, but has only made two appearances from the bench in USL Championship regular-season play. The LouCity Academy product has been on the field for 229 minutes, generating five shots in four games between the two competitions.
He starts in place of USL Championship appearances and minutes leader Sean Totsch, who misses out as a precaution due to injury.
The other ten starters are the same from Tuesday’s triumph over Austin, just the club’s second win over an MLS team in competitive play.
Tola Showunmi, who leads Louisville with five goals this season, retains his place at center forward. The 25-year-old Englishman has scored five goals this year, including two in league play, and he has found the back of the net in three of his last four games.
Saturday will be Showunmi’s third consecutive start, equaling his longest starting run in the United States. He made three straight starts during his 2023 rookie season with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Showunmi once made five straight starts for Crawley Town FC in England from November to December 2024.
Evan Davila and Ray Serrano will support Showunmi from the wings. Saturday will be Davila’s third consecutive start, matching a career high set last season. Saturday will be Serrano’s ninth straight appearance for Louisville, after he was left on the bench in the season opener on March 6.
Taylor Davila and Zach Duncan start in the midfield. The pair have a combined 14 starts this season, with the duo starting five games together in the midfield. Davila had the assist on Totsch’s opening goal in Tuesday’s win. Duncan, meanwhile, finished Tuesday with team highs in tackles (5) and tackles won (2).
Aside from Totsch, the backline remains intact. Jake Morris and Manny Perez start at wingback, with captain Kyle Adams and 17-year-old Brandon Dayes joining Moguel centrally. Perez delivered the assist on Showunmi’s game-winner Tuesday.
Hugo Fauroux starts in goal for the eighth game running. The Frenchman made two saves against Austin and won possession nine times, a team high.
On the bench, Chris Donovan, Babacar Niang, Jansen Wilson and Mukwelle Akale have all tallied at least one goal this season. French winger Quenzi Huerman is available for the first time since suffering an injury on March 18 against Southern Indiana FC.
