Louisville City FC will have its ironman back in the lineup for a meeting between two of the USL Championship’s hottest teams.
Sean Totsch reassumes his starting spot for an 8 p.m. Saturday kickoff against FC Tulsa having missed the club’s July 4 victory at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC with a minor injury. Typically LouCity’s minutes leader, Totsch also appeared as a substitute last weekend in an international friendly versus CD Leganés.
Totsch rejoins the back line alongside Kyle Adams and Josh Jones, a rookie out of the University of Louisville who has seen his playing time increase dramatically as of late. Damian Las once again slots in at goalkeeper, solidifying a defensive group that has conceded only 12 goals this season, joint-fewest in the league with Sacramento Republic FC.
Going back to the Colorado Springs game, Totsch marks the lone lineup change for coach Danny Cruz, who had Aiden McFadden play a more central defensive role that night. With three healthy defenders in for Saturday, McFadden will shift back out wide opposite Amadou Dia.
Taylor Davila and Kevon Lambert earned midfield roles, while the front three consists of Ray Serrano, Jansen Wilson and Phillip Goodrum.
Notably, LouCity will have with it honorary captain Ezekiel Nzombi, who signed a one-game contract in partnership with Norton Children’s. 8-year-old “Zeek” is an aspiring soccer player who overcame a stroke at a young age — embodying the aim of Saturday’s Super Kid Night to recognize kiddos thriving despite some obstacles in their way.
Due to the friendly, it’s been two weeks since City played a USL Championship regular season game. The boys in purple have won six of their last seven and sit just one point behind the Charleston Battery for the overall league lead.
Luke Spencer-led FC Tulsa, meanwhile, boasts an 8-3-4 record to lead the Western Conference.
Coverage Saturday will air locally on MyTV 58 and ESPN Louisville’s AM 680/FM 105.7 with streaming available via WDRB+ and ESPN+.
