Louisville City FC winger Brian Ownby will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair a recently suffered leg injury, the club announced Tuesday.
Ownby left last weekend’s preseason finale against Knoxville SC after a second half collision. Although a timeframe to return hasn’t been determined, his rehabilitation is expected to be lengthy.
“We’re so disappointed for Brian,” said coach Danny Cruz. “He came into preseason in the best shape of his career, and we saw his leadership qualities on display from Day 1. Quite often people forget about the human aspect injuries can have on an individual. This organization will do whatever it can to support Brian during his rehab process. Likewise, I know Brian will continue to be a leading voice in our locker room as we push to have a successful season.”
Ownby, 33, was set to captain LouCity for the club’s 10th anniversary season. The speedy forward came off a 2023 campaign when he led LouCity in chances created (47) and assists (5) to go with his 4 goals. Ownby is also City’s all-time assist leader with 37.
LouCity’s season opens Saturday with a 3 p.m. kickoff at El Paso Locomotive FC.
