Louisville City FC has signed goalkeeper Chandler Gaunce to a 25-day contract, pending league and federation approval, ahead of this weekend’s game against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
From Winchester, Kentucky, Gaunce played at Division III Transylvania University near his hometown before finishing his career at Division I Winthrop University in South Carolina.
Gaunce was an all-state selection at George Rodgers Clark High School preceding his collegiate career, plus has experience playing in USL League Two. This represents his first professional contract.
The 25-year-old trained with LouCity for more than a month leading up to his signing, which adds depth to a group paced this season by Oliver Semmle, whose 11 shutouts on the year lead the USL Championship. Danny Faundez has primarily backed up Semmle with Kyle Morton — last year’s USL Championship Golden Glove winner — sidelined due to injury.
LouCity and Tampa Bay kick off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida.
