Louisville City FC will continue Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play with a Third Round home game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, against St. Louis City SC 2 at Lynn Family Stadium.
Season ticket members can expect emailed communication to reserve their seats at Lynn Family Stadium in advance of a public sale. Visit LouCity.com/OpenCup or call (502) LOU-CITY during regular business hours for up-to-date information.
It’s in the Third Round that lower-seeded Major League Soccer teams enter to face clubs from the Division II USL Championship, LouCity’s league, along with Division III teams and surviving open division amateur sides from earlier competition.
St. Louis City SC 2 upset the USL Championship’s Indy Eleven on Tuesday in the Second Round. The team — now in the Division III MLS Next Pro as it prepares for an MLS launch next year — is coached by former LouCity manager John Hackworth.
Thanks to a 75th-minute Wilson Harris goal, the boys in purple then advanced out of the second round Wednesday with a 1-0 victory over USL League One’s Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
LouCity has played in five previous U.S. Open Cup editions — the knockout, national championship tournament paused in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic — and three times has advanced past the Third Round. In 2018, the boys in purple went as far as the quarterfinals, knocking off MLS’ New England Revolution in the process.
This year’s Third Round will narrow the Open Cup to a Round of 32 (May 10-11) before the Round of 16 (May 24-25), Quarterfinals (June 21-22), Semifinals (July 26-27) and Final (Sept. 6, 7, 13 or 14).
Home teams for each round are determined by random selection among those who apply to host. Clubs whose venue meets minimum tournament standards are given priority.
