On the eve of his third preseason as Louisville City FC’s head coach and sporting director, John Hackworth’s expectations for 2021 are nothing short of the precedent to which the club has become accustomed.
“Ultimately, the goal is to win another USL Championship and put the third star above our crest,” Hackworth said in a recent Courier Journal interview. “There’s not a man in that locker room (after) that Tampa Bay Rowdies game that wasn’t disappointed and frustrated that we didn’t win. Our goal is to get back in that place we were last year.”
Hackworth also outlined the work done since LouCity bowed out of the playoffs last October and revealed some preseason plans, with a majority of players already back in town for a Feb. 1 start.
“We believe our season won’t start until later in the spring than normal,” Hackworth said. “Our guys are here, and we’re ready to get back to being on the field.”
