In his weekly visit with the WDRB sports team, Louisville City FC coach and sporting director John Hackworth emphasized the need for a fast start to this truncated USL Championship season.
The latest “Yackin’ with Hack” segment touched on the start of Group E play, with LouCity to host Saint Louis FC at 8 p.m. Saturday inside Lynn Family Stadium. Four games apiece will be played against Saint Louis FC, Indy Eleven and Sporting KC II.
In that regard, Hackworth said, this weekend’s result could mean more in the playoff push than last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Pittsburgh Riverhouns SC. He said the boys in purple can essentially make it a “six-point swing” with Group E victories.
“This is a little mini playoff game, if you will,” Hackworth said, “because when you host a team within your division right now, the expectation is that you’ll win that game. And so if you don’t win that game, if you don’t get those three points, those are not only the three points you should’ve won, but you have to think of it as the opposition gaining the three points.”
