LOUISVILLE, KY (March 3, 2020)— Louisville City FC President Brad Estes and coach John Hackworth accepted the keys to the club’s new home, Lynn Family Stadium, Tuesday.
“Watching this stadium come to life — from the initial drawings to the steel skeleton to the final product — has been a thrilling experience for me and for the tens of thousands of fans who have been waiting patiently for a place to call our own,” said Brad Estes, President of Soccer Holdings, LLC, the parent company of Louisville City FC. “We’re grateful to the Messer/Harmon team for building our new home, and we are so excited for Louisville to experience championship soccer here on April 11.”
The 15-month construction process is now completed on time and on budget by the Messer/Harmon team. The entire project included 1,012 construction workers and required more than 345,000 total working hours to complete. The new $65 million stadium will be ready for Louisville City’s USL Championship Home Opener on April 11. The stadium will also be used for concerts and events as well as Louisville City’s U23 team, which will begin play this summer and Louisville’s NWSL franchise, which will begin play in 2021.
“Working on this project has been a career highlight for me and the entire Messer/Harmon team,” said Jason Larkin, Messer project manager. “We take immense pride in building an iconic destination for Louisville sports fans. Our teams worked six days a week for more than a year to raise this new Louisville landmark, and we can’t wait for the opening games. Lynn Family Stadium will be an outstanding home for our LouCity FC team and fans.”
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, a longtime Louisville City FC fan, presided over the key transfer ceremony.
“A championship soccer team and world-class fans deserve a champion-caliber stadium, and Messer/Harmon delivered,” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. “Louisville will be the envy of the professional soccer world thanks to Lynn Family Stadium.”
Built specifically for soccer, the sightlines in the new stadium are perfectly suited for the sport. Every seat is close to the action and the stadium is built to allow fans to get concessions without missing a second of the action.
“Lynn Family Stadium will be a cathedral for soccer,” Louisville City coach John Hackworth said. “Thank you to the construction team of Messer and Harmon. Having a stadium built specifically for our game is going to completely revolutionize the game experience for our fans. Our team can’t wait to take the field with a packed house of LouCity fans cheering us on.”
Team leaders broke ground on the stadium in June 2018; significant construction began the following November. The stadium is named after Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn, who signed a multi-year naming rights agreement with the club in 2019.
“The entire Lynn Family is appreciative to Messer-Harmon Construction for capturing the vision of the city and making this stadium come to life,” Dr. Mark Lynn said. “The Lynn Family Stadium is quickly becoming a Louisville landmark and we are proud to call this state of the art facility home.”
Lynn Family Stadium is situated near both I-64 and I-71 in the Butchertown neighborhood east of downtown Louisville. The stadium includes 18 luxury suites, club and loge seating options, seven bars within sight of the pitch, and a 40×72 foot video board in the Waterfront Supporter Zone.
“Thousands of people drive past this stadium every day; it’s a showcase piece for Butchertown and for Louisville,” said John Megibben, Messer vice president and Louisville market leader. “Lynn Family Stadium has already transformed this neighborhood, and we’re looking forward to watching how Butchertown will continue to blossom thanks to this investment.”
On Tuesday morning, Louisville City announced all single-match seats allotted for Louisville City Football Club’s April 11 USL Championship Home Opener have sold out. Louisville City has held less than 800 seat locations for future Season Ticket Members.
