MONDAY, FEB. 17, 2020 – Louisville City Football Club’s first-ever Academy Cup team closed out its trip to Florida with an 8-0 win over FC Miami City Monday morning.
LouCity’s first appearance in the USL’s new Cup format was a success thanks to a strong group of 17 All-Stars from clubs all around Kentucky. And the final match showcased all of their skills.
Owen Damm opened the scoring for LouCity in the 21′ and Elijah Wynder followed with a goal in the 27′ to put the Boys in Purple up 2-0. Wynder, a 16-year old who was Louisville City’s first-ever Academy Contract player, practiced with the First Team last season and even appeared in the 18-man lineup three times.
Dino Hodzic made it 3-0 LouCity in the 40′, and the scoring ramped up in the second half. Eyob McFarland scored LouCity’s fourth goal just four minutes after halftime. Free-kick specialist Carlos Moguel extended the lead to 5-0 in the 65′ with a goal from 10 yards beyond the box.
Then Zach Schonwetter scored back-to-back-to-back goals to net a Hat Trick to close out the match with LouCity on top 8-0.
Louisville City’s team opened the competition with a 7-2 win over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in its first-ever Academy Cup match Friday night. Then Louisville City fell 1-3 to S. Georgia Tormenta Sunday morning.
