LouCity Football Club hosted nearly 50 professional hopefuls at a tryout Saturday and Sunday at its training grounds near Thurman Hutchins Park.
“I have so much respect for the players who made the decision to chase their dreams by attending our open tryouts,” Louisville City Head Coach and Sporting Director John Hackworth said. “To me, these guys are heroes. It is a great example of believing in yourself and doing everything in your power to create your own destiny.”
The tryout was available to all players aged 16 and up who want to pursue a career in professional soccer. LouCity’s technical staff oversaw the training and tryouts, working with the trialists in one-on-one and group drills before observing them in match-type scenarios over the course of two days.
“We had some really talented players showcase themselves in front of our staff for two consecutive days,” Hackworth said. “As a bonus, the weather cooperated and allowed us to play on our training fields, which hopefully made for a better experience for the trialists. In the end, our staff is considering several players for future opportunities with us.”
Louisville City has signed 18 players for the 2020 season, returning 16 players from the club which won the Eastern Conference Title and competed in the USL Championship Final. LouCity is the most successful club in the modern USL Championship with two USL Championship Titles and three Eastern Conference trophies.
In addition to evaluating future professionals in the 16-24-year-old range this weekend, LouCity will field its first 17 U-USL Academy team for the USL Academy Cup in the spring of 2020.
