Lucky Mkosana was selected the VisionWorks Man of the Match during Louisville City’s 4th Round matchup vs. FC Cincinnati. Mkosana brought the Lou City faithful to their feet as he netted the lone Louisville City goal in the 29′ on a perfectly placed assist by Magnus Rasmussen.
Mkosana in his first start since the May 26 matchup against the Bethlehem Steel in Philadelphia, where he also scored off of a George Davis assist. The Zimbabwe native made his presence felt tonight by putting a lot of pressure FC Cincinnati goalkeeper.
Lucky had two shots on goal and converted on one of them, as he exited the game in the 69′, replaced by Luke Spencer.
The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, one of the more unique events in all of sports, brings two old rivals back together. Louisville City traveled 90 minutes up Interstate 71 to renew a rivalry with FC Cincinnati, who has been recently promoted to the MLS.
The match lived up to the hype. It took 120 minutes to determine a winner. A defensive miscue led to a goal in the 23′ by FC Cincinnati’s Fanendo Adi. Shortly after the FCC goal, Lou City came back and knotted up the match at 1 in the 29′. Both teams had ample opportunities to score in the last 61 minutes; however, the score was still 1-1 after Full Time. In the 103′, another defensive breakdown led to a goal by Kekuta Manneh of FCC, and Louisville City was not able to answer in the last 17 minutes in extra time.
Lucky and the Boys in Purple look to continue to climb in the Eastern Conference standings as they take on the New York Red Bulls II on Sunday in New Jersey.
