OVERLAND PARK, KS — Louisville City FC is facing a Monday night showdown with traditional Western power Swope Park Rangers tonight in Kansas City.
Louisville City has faced Swope Park before – most recently in the 2017 USL Cup title game – but this game takes on a new twist with Swope Park joining the Eastern Conference this season.
Monday night will be Louisville City’s first-ever visit to Children’s Mercy Park, the home of Sporting KC and Swope Park Rangers, the USL Championship affiliate for Sporting.
The visit to Kansas City is also special for Louisville City coach John Hackworth. Hackworth’s Philadelphia Union squad beat Sporting KC in Children’s Mercy Park and Danny Cruz, now Louisville City’s assistant, scored the game-winning goal.
Kansas City is also special to Hackworth for another reason.
“I was in Kansas City training with the U.S. National program when I got the call about Louisville City,” Hackworth said.
On the pitch tonight, Louisville City is hoping to continue its winning ways from the last two matches. As City has continue to regain health – George Davis IV and Luke Spencer are in the 18 tonight and expected to contribute – Louisville City has had a strong run of play the last three matches.
WATCH PARTY: Tonight’s official LouCity Watch Party will be at El Nopal in Middletown. There are drink specials for Louisville City fans and the match will be broadcast on the screens throughout the restaurant. Details below:
