Heading into day four at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, LouCity correspondents sat down with newcomer & defender Alexis Souahy to get his thoughts on the week so far.
LouCity: Through three days, you still have your legs. That’s an accomplishment!
Alexis Souahy: [laughs] It’s been tough, for sure. It’s never easy for anyone, but that’s what we want. We want to get as fit as we can. The better we push ourselves the better we’ll be come the season, so this is tiring but it’s all good. This will have a good outcome.”
LCFC: What’s your overall reaction to the first couple of days?
AS: College preseason is not easy, but this is my first time experiencing a preseason like this. The level is higher, the standards are higher. It’s a tough first time.
LCFC: You arrived on the scene after a great career with Bowling Green State in Ohio. What’s your goal as you embark on your first year as a pro?
AS: My goal is to help the team as much as I can in any way. Collectively, we don’t want to be as good as last year – we want to be even better. It’s all about putting others in a good position, so for me that’s the midfielders and forwards where they can turn and play forward. Obviously, not making technical mistakes, but always improving and helping others.
LCFC: Preseason is vital for performance, but what else are you looking forward to in this next couple of weeks?
AS: Outside of pushing ourselves as a team, I’m looking forward to getting to the guys more. Team bonding is a big thing and spending more time with the boys is what I’m looking for.
LCFC: One thing we like to ask everyone – tell me about your non-soccer side. What do you like to do for fun?
AS: I watch a lot of movies. I’m a big film guy. I like to go to the movies and I like to go shopping as well.
LCFC: What about Louisville? Do you feel like you’ve settled well?
AS: I haven’t gotten to visit the city yet, but I’m pretty excited.
