Notes
Eastern Conference Clinched: After earning a point in Saturday’s draw with Rochester, Louisville City FC clinched the Eastern Conference title for the first time in their history. At 56 points, LouCity does not have enough games left to catch up to the USL leaders Real Monarchs SLC, at 63 points, but could still finish second overall in the entire league.
Playoff Picture: LouCity clinched their playoff appearance and the Eastern Conference title, giving them hosting duties throughout the USL playoffs. Charlotte has dropped to fourth place in the Eastern Conference. While they have secured a playoff berth, they are now looking to clinch hosting a first round game. LouCity will be hosting the first round playoff game at Slugger Field Oct. 20th.
Scouting Charlotte: Charlotte Independence comes to Slugger Field with only one win since September 2nd. Charlotte is on a three game losing streak with two games remaining in the regular season. Enzo Martinez leads the Eastern Conference in goals scored at 16 this season, and is second in the Eastern Conference for shots taken, at 90.
Last time against Charlotte: This will be LouCity’s third meeting of 2017 with the Independence. The first meeting resulted in a LouCity win at Slugger thanks to a strike from Richard Ballard in early June. The next meeting was a 3-1 road loss, with Enzo Martinez getting a brace for the Charlotte.
LouCity’s International Duty: Three LouCity players have been called up to their national teams. Greg Ranjitsingh was the first to be called to Trinidad and Tobago. Mark-Anthony Kaye followed, being called to Canada. Devon “Speedy” Williams rounds out the call-ups, being called upon by Jamaica. All three players will miss Saturday’s match.
Reynolds earns Team of the Week: Defender Sean Reynolds earned his first USL Team of the Week honor of the 2017 season Tuesday for his standout defensive performance against Rochester. Reynolds had six blocks and 12 clearances in the 0-0 draw. This is LouCity’s 16th player to earn a Team of the Week honor this season.
A week of recovery: After five games in 15 days, Louisville City FC returned to a week of recovery and preparation for Saturday. In a span that included one win, three draws, and one loss, LouCity maintained their first-place standing, finishing their stretch with 56 points. LouCity is currently in second place in the entire USL.
Strong defensive play: Over their five-game stretch, LouCity has allowed only five goals, and never more than two in any match. The back line for the boys in purple has been providing excellent support for their goalkeepers, which has been a trend all season. Strong defense has been a key attribute to the fact LouCity has not lost more than one game in a row all season.
Strength at Slugger: In each of its three seasons in Louisville, members of the community have shown their support for the boys in purple by increasing average attendance at home games each season. 2017 saw the first sell-out of Slugger Field in club history against FC Cincinnati on Aug. 12th, which the team looks to do once again during their hosting stint for the playoffs.
