The United Soccer League on Tuesday honored Louisville City FC defender Oscar Jimenez for his performance in a 4-1 win over the weekend at Saint Louis FC, naming him to its latest USL Team of the Week.
Jimenez equalized Saturday for LouCity in the 52nd minute, playing a ball through a defender’s legs before finishing from a difficult angle on the right side. Five minutes later, his cross in from the right found teammate Paco Craig at the face of goal for the game-winner.
With a key goal and assist in his 90-minute performance, Jiemenz also earned Man of the Match honors as voted by LouCity fans.
A former standout player and later assistant coach for Western Washington University, Jimenez has made the most of his opportunity with LouCity, developing into a regular starter after signed out of an invitation tryout. He has one other goal on the season and leads the team defensively with 36 interceptions.
This marks Jimenez’s first Team of the Week appearance in 2017.
