Just days before Louisville City FC opens its 2017 season, fans can kick it downtown with players on Wednesday, March 22, at a Lunch with LouCity get-together hosted by the Louisville Visitor Center.
Free refreshments and finger foods from local restaurants will be offered from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the Visitor Center, 301 S. 4th Street, with a limited supply of free mini-soccer balls provided for autographs.
Players on hand will include, among others, Louisville native and Indiana University product Richard Ballard, University of Louisville graduate Paolo DelPiccolo and the University of Kentucky’s George Davis IV.
Look for LouCity’s purple merchandise truck parked out front at the corner of 4th and Jefferson streets. Weather-permitting, players will step outside to show off their skills during the downtown lunch break.
While at the Visitor Center, enter to win a five-ticket Flex Pack to your choice of 2017 games. LouCity gear and tickets to the club’s season opener, set for Saturday, March 25, will also be on sale. Kickoff against Saint Louis FC is set for 2 p.m. at Slugger Field.
LouCity has witnessed success both on and off the field during its first two seasons. The club advanced to the United Soccer League’s Eastern Conference Final in back-to-back years while welcoming an average more than 7,200 fans to Slugger Field for home games.
The USL, recently promoted to the Division II level in the United States, is one rung below top-level Major League Soccer with a regular season running from March through October.
The Louisville Visitor Center is a key resource for those visiting the city, offering brochures, maps and travel services, along with serving as an Urban Bourbon Trail and Kentucky Bourbon Trail passport pick-up and redemption location. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.
