CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. – The 2016 USL Winter Summit opened on Thursday morning as the league’s Board of Governors convened for the annual convention in Clearwater Beach, Fla. USL Chief Executive Officer Alec Papadakis and President Jake Edwards both addressed the group as the league continued to plan for the 2017 season.
After a historic year on and off the field for the USL, the Winter Summit offered a chance to both celebrate a remarkable 2016 season, and look ahead as the USL continues to grow entering its seventh season.
“The Winter Summit offers a wonderful opportunity for us to meet with ownership groups and executives from across the USL,” said Edwards. “I’m looking forward to a productive set of meetings as we aim to push the league to even greater heights in 2017, and beyond.”
In addition to the meeting of the USL Board of Governors, numerous seminars will also take place in the next two days, with representatives from Disney Institute, PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLC, Beswicks Sports and HoK Architects among those scheduled to be with league executives.
“The relationships the USL has built with some outstanding organizations over the past year has widened the scope of the speakers we have been able to call upon to provide insight that will benefit all of our teams,” said Edwards. “That in turn will allow the USL to continue its growth, particularly off the field, as we build a strong, sustainable league.”
