When the United Soccer League season ends later this month, Louisville City FC assistant coach Daniel Byrd will turn some attention from guiding the pros to teaching the next generation of local soccer standouts.
Want to defend like Sean Reynolds? Command the midfield like Aodhan Quinn? Strike like Chandler Hoffman?
Signups are now open for LouCity’s Fall Youth Camps, which for $99 include four weekly, hour-long sessions, as well as a team scarf (valued at $25) and ticket to the club’s 2017 home opener (valued at $15).
“The camps are a great opportunity to receive professional coaching from Louisville City’s players and coaching staff at a very reasonable price,” Byrd said. “The instruction will be position-specific and geared toward players who are looking to gain an edge in their technical development. Slots will be limited to ensure high-quality training.”
Dates for the Fall Camps are all on Sundays — Oct. 30, Nov. 6, Nov. 13 and Nov. 20 — at the D1 Sports Training center located at 12101 Sycamore Station Place. Children ages 8-12 are eligible.
From 3-4 p.m. each week, Byrd and LouCity players will work with defenders. From 4-5 p.m., it’s the midfielders’ turn. Forwards then go from 5-6 p.m.
Each position group will have instruction from the professional players who posted a second-place USL Eastern Conference finish in 2016. The club enters the playoffs with a 17-4-9 record and over the summer played a franchise record 17 straight games without a loss.
Byrd, who for both seasons has served as LouCity head coach James O’Connor’s top assistant, previously worked for Orlando City SC’s youth squad and played collegiately for Johnson University in Tennessee from 2000-2004. He also oversaw a series of summer clinics hosted by LouCity.
