Recent charity efforts in Louisville attempted to Bike to Beat Cancer or Splat Out Cancer. Over the next two weeks, Louisville City FC will add a soccer twist to fighting the disease leading up to Cancer Awareness Night on Aug. 27 at Slugger Field.
The club now has on sale “LouCity Kicks Cancer” wrist bands, with the proceeds returned to five local partners: Baptist Health Cancer Care, the Colon Cancer Prevention Project, Gilda’s Club Louisville, Kosair Children’s Hospital, and the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
The purple, $2 wrist bands are available at LouCity’s team store, at 125 S. 6th Street, and will be on sale at the club’s Aug. 27 game against the Bethlehem Steel.
LouCity is aiming to make a major impact on Cancer Awareness Night through its charity partners as well as those in our community battling cancer, those who survived it, or the many others who have seen friends and family affected by the disease.
To show support, fans can write a note on a massive banner that will display Aug. 27 at Slugger Field. Also, patients and survivors associated with the club’s charity partners will form a tunnel as LouCity players walk on the field before the 7:30 p.m. game. Information booths will line the concourse to raise awareness.
Tickets remain available starting at $15, and online buyers who use the code “Cancer2016” will contribute one-third of the price to charities.
