Following a record-breaking night at Louisville Slugger Field — Louisville City FC drew a crowd of 10,062 for its match against rival FC Cincinnati — the club has planned another packed night of activities July 4 as it hosts USL rival FC Montreal.
LouCity sports a 14-game unbeaten streak and No. 1 spot in the Eastern Conference standings entering Monday’s 7:30 p.m. match. Off the field, a number of giveaways and fireworks will celebrate Independence Day.
It’s also goalie Scott Goodwin’s final game. LouCity’s first-ever goalkeeper will move on to attend Harvard Medical School.
“Our Independence Day match will be a special occasion as we will recognize and celebrate Scott Goodwin’s final match with Louisville City and conclude the night’s and holiday weekend’s festivities with a fireworks show,” said LouCity president Amanda Duffy. “Scott was the club’s first goalkeeper and quickly became a fan favorite, and I anticipate a memorable occasion for everyone upon his retirement.”
Before Monday’s match, the first 500 fans at LouCity’s pregame el Jimador Tequila Pitch Party, in the lot directly West of Slugger Field, will receive a collectors cup provided by Cooper’s Craft, a new bourbon made by Brown-Forman. The Pitch Party, which regularly includes food trucks, a DJ and photo booth, will also on Monday feature a face painter from 6-7 p.m.
Courtesy of WLKY and Window World, the first 7,500 fans in the stadium will receive posters featuring Goodwin, the LouCity keeper.
Additionally, the first 1,000 children and families by the playground down the right field line can pick up soccer ball drawstring backpacks provided by WLKY, the game’s presenting sponsor.
LouCity is averaging attendance of 7,331 through seven home matches. After hosting FC Montreal, the club will welcome the Charleston Battery to Slugger on July 9, capping a stretch of four straight game dates.
