Louisville City FC is calling for fans to don the club’s primary color Saturday for the most-anticipated home match so far this season.
The second meeting in the River Cities Cup series with FC Cincinnati has been deemed a Purple Out at Louisville Slugger Field. Presenting sponsor Baptist Health is also set to give away 1,500 mini cowbells to fans.
ESPN3’s coverage will start at 7:30, with game time pushed back to 7:50 p.m. to accommodate the broadcast. Michael Watts has the play-by-play assignment, Cory Gibbs color commentary and Heather Mitts, the former United States Women’s National Team star, sideline reporting duties. Locally, the game will also air on MeTV.
Starting Wednesday, LouCity fans can purchase purple T-shirts at the club’s Team Store for 10 percent off the regular price to gear up for the United Soccer League’s Game of the Week. The discount will also apply game day at the merchandise stand on the Slugger Field concourse.
Hours for the LouCity Team Store, at 127 S. Sixth Street, are 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m on weekdays.
Louisville (10-1-4, 34 points) enters Saturday atop the USL’s Eastern Conference standings unbeaten in 13 straight matches. The streak includes a 3-2 victory in the first meeting between LouCity and FC Cincinnati played at Nippert Stadium.
Cincinnati (8-2-3, 27 points) hasn’t lost either since its April 16 defeat to Louisville while climbing the table to third place.
Tickets remain on sale, with single-game admission starting at $15 and flexible five-match packs at $70.
Along with Saturday marking a key mid-season matchup in USL play, LouCity can clinch the season series by winning. One more game between the two remains July 23 in Cincinnati.
It’s also possible LouCity breaks its regular-season USL attendance record of 8,414 set Aug. 29, 2015, during a match against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The club’s overall high attendance mark stands at 9,434 recorded Aug. 25, 2015, when Major League Soccer’s Orlando City SC visited for a friendly at Slugger Field.
