LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After three preseason victories over NCAA-level teams, Louisville City FC will play its final preseason friendly against the North American Soccer League’s Indy Eleven on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Per Indy 11, the game is closed to the public.
Three Things To Watch:
Pro Competition: LouCity has played three preseason friendlies thus far. All have been relatively decisive victories. The Club defeated Southern Illinois Edwardsville, 4-0, the University of Louisville, 1-0, and the University of Kentucky, 3-0. Coach James O’Connor will surely be interested to see how his squad fares against the Indianapolis-based NASL outfit.
Dominate the Eleven: Last season, Louisville City played against Indy Eleven twice. The teams competed in a preseason friendly that LouCity won, 2-1. In May of 2015, LouCity defeated Indy again, but this time it counted. O’Connor’s historic inaugural squad defeated the NASL side in the U.S. Open Cup, 2-0, in Indianapolis. The game was filled with late-game drama. LouCity’s two goals came in the 115th and 120th minutes, allowing the first-year Club to advance to the next round of the competition. It should be interesting to see if LouCity can continue its winning tradition against Indy Eleven.
One Big Happy Family: In LouCity’s first three preseason games, the team has seen a lot of squad rotation. Many players have been able to see game action, which O’Connor believes to be very beneficial to his squad. Look for O’Connor to continue to give players throughout the squad a chance to shine against Indy.
Entering 2016, Louisville City FC has returned 13 players from the 2015 roster — including reigning USL Goal of the Season winner Aodhan Quinn and former English Premier League striker Cameron Lancaster. New additions include MLS Cup-winning forward Chandler Hoffman, University of Louisville alumnus Paolo DelPiccolo and University of Kentucky alumnus Davis.
Louisville City FC begins regular season play on March 26 at Charlotte Independence. LouCity then returns to Louisville Slugger Field on April 2 to host New York Red Bulls II in the home opener, with a special 3 p.m. kickoff.
