LOUISVILLE, Ky.- After many suggestions, Louisville City FC and FC Cincinnati have narrowed the field of possible cup names to five options.The two United Soccer League clubs separated by approximately 100 miles have been searching for a name for their new rivalry. Supporters of both clubs tweeted their suggestions for the name of what is sure to be one of the USL’s fiercest rivalries using the hashtag #NameTheCup.
After much deliberation, the field of suggestions includes the following five options.
Steamboat Cup
River Cities Cup
Royal Cup
100 Mile Cup
Riverboat Rivalry Cup
Supporters can vote for their favorite name on either LouisvilleCityFC.com or FCCincinnati.com. The poll will close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4.
The submitter of the name that is ultimately chosen will receive four tickets to one of the three head-to-head matchups between LouCity and FC Cincinnati. FC Cincinnati will host two of the three matches on April 16 and July 23, while Louisville City will host FC Cincinnati at Louisville Slugger Field on June 25.
Louisville City FC will begin regular season play on March 26 at Charlotte Independence. LouCity then returns to Louisville Slugger Field on April 2 to host New York Red Bulls II in the home opener, with a special 3 p.m. kickoff.
