LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Tuesday evening, Greater Louisville Incorporated honored Louisville City FC for its outstanding inaugural season with a Silver Fleur-de-Lis. GLI gives the award to those who bring significant positive change to the city of Louisville each year.
Members of Louisville City’s ownership, Michael Mountjoy and Wayne Estopinal, accepted the award on behalf of the Club on Tuesday. The two owners both helped bring professional soccer to Louisville.
“After just one short year, it is an honor to receive the Silver Fleur-de-Lis from such a great organization like GLI,” Estopinal said. “To be seen as a positive power in the Louisville community and to be awarded for it is really a testament to the outstanding work that Louisville City’s players, coaches, staff and fans have done to create something special.

The award came just a day after Louisville City announced its four-game preseason schedule and just hours after the announcement of Louisville City’s 2016 regular season schedule. The Club enters its second season after a historic inaugural campaign that saw it finish as Eastern Conference finalists.
“We had such an amazing first year,” Estopinal said. “And the Silver Fleur-de-Lis is proof. And to receive it on the same day our 2016 schedule was announced, that just builds the excitement for us for our second season.”
Estopinal raised $3 million to bring the team to the city of Louisville. He is credited with founding the franchise and still holds a stake in ownership. Mountjoy heads an LLC made up of private investors that continue to fund the Club.

The Silver Fleur-de-Lis was created by GLI to recognize outstanding commitments and achievements over the past year in making the Louisville community a better place in which to live and work.
“We are proud to be a part of the Louisville community and it’s an honor to be recognized by GLI and the Metro Chamber of Commerce,” Louisville City President Amanda Duffy said. “This is recognition not just for Louisville City FC but for its supporters, players, coaches, front office staff and the United Soccer League as a whole. We’ve set lofty new goals for 2016 and beyond, and we’re excited to strive for them with the support of the greater Louisville area.”
The Greater Louisville Inc. Annual Meeting was held on Tuesday at the Louisville Palace. Delivering this year’s keynote was Mark Bertolini, Chairman and CEO of Aetna.
