Alisa Maysey knows a long road awaits for her son, Nat, who last week severed his arm in a workplace accident. But as Nat Maysey recovers at University of Louisville Hospital, he received a boost Tuesday from Louisville City FC defender Sean Reynolds.
Reynolds stopped by the recent Glasgow High School graduate’s room, where for more than an hour he and Maysey chatted about soccer, also his sport, and watched UEFA EURO 2016 tournament match.
The time left Maysey “in awe,” his mother said, and “ever since the visit he’s told everyone that’s come in — every doctor, every therapist, every nurse that works with him. He says, ‘I got a visit from Sean Reynolds.’ It was just a big pick me up for his spirits.”

Reynolds brought Maysey a Louisville City FC scarf signed by his teammates. He also left one of his 2015 jerseys with his new friend. The uniform now hangs on the wall in Maysey’s hospital room.
“I suspect he’ll wear that home,” Alisa Maysey said.
Nat Maysey didn’t suffer life-threatening injuries, but after a nine-hour surgery to reattach his arm, how much he’ll recover remains unknown.
The Mayseys have talked about attending a professional soccer game — Alisa said the family has friends in Washington, D.C. — but haven’t made the trek yet. They’ve recently added a trip to Louisville Slugger Field to their to-do list.
“For a young man like Sean to take his own personal time to come by the hospital to see a young man he’s never even met just because he thought it might cheer him up — for me, as a mom, that’s just phenomenal,” Alisa said.
