This weekend, Louisville City FC will be among the more than 10 organizations, clubs and colleges taking part in Sportsfest Louisville, which its organizer calls “a family-friendly sports experience like no other.”
Teague Ridge, interviewed this week on WHAS11, said, “Our whole idea of doing this is, you may have a kid who’s a great basketball player or great football player. Well, they can come get expert instruction and take their game to the next level.
“Maybe you want to get a kid off the couch. They haven’t found their sport yet.”
Set for Saturday and Sunday at the Kentucky Exposition Center, Sportsfest features spaces for specialized sports instruction for one flat fee. LouCity assistant coach Thabane Sutu will host soccer clinics from 12-12:30 p.m. and 2-2:30 p.m. Saturday, as well as from 1-1:30 p.m. Sunday.
A 50 x 50 turf field will be set up for kids to test their soccer skills all day. LouCity merchandise will be on sale, and the club plans to offer giveaway items and enter-to-wins.
Admission to Sportsfest is free for kids 5 and younger; it’s $10 for those 6 and older; and a family (two adults, two children) can get in for $25. As kids complete various clinics, they’ll receive a wrist band to reflect the achievement, including a purple one with the LouCity logo.
“For kids, it’ll be a great experience to go out, have some fun, get used to a soccer ball, and try different things with it,” said LouCity head coach James O’Connor. “It’s something we’re excited about.”
