Louisville City FC has acquired 6-foot-4 goalkeeper Ryan Schewe on loan from Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer. The deal is for the remainder of the 2026 season and is pending league and federation approval.
Schewe — pronounced “shay-way” — arrived in Louisville on Wednesday and trained with the team on Thursday. He will be available for selection in Saturday’s game at Rhode Island FC.
“I’m really excited to be here and just want to help this team win,” Schewe said. “Louisville City is a top club in the USL Championship and I’m looking forward to helping this club lift more trophies this season.”
The 24-year-old is in his third season as a professional. Sporting Kansas City selected him in the first round of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft, 22nd overall, out of Georgetown University.
Schewe has made one competitive appearance for the Kansas City senior team, in the first round of the 2025 U.S. Open Cup. Additionally, he has made 17 appearances for Sporting KC II in MLS Next Pro, posting two shutouts.
“We are really excited to add Ryan to our group. He is a goalkeeper we have known about for some time, and know that he has all the attributes to be a huge success here,” LouCity interim head coach Simon Bird said. “The first thing that stood out to us when talking to him and his coaching staff was the character of the player. He has great ambition, determination and mentality. Add all of that to the technical quality and both the size and stature that he has, and the sky is the limit for him.”
Schewe is under contract with Kansas City through 2026, with options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
“We’ve had Ryan on our radar for some time now,” LouCity goalkeeper coach Scott Budnick said. “He is athletic and quick, and is solid technically. He has a presence in goal and, most importantly, wants to win. Ryan’s addition will strengthen our goalkeeping group, and we expect that he will compete every day with Danny and Trout for the No. 1 shirt. We are very glad to have him.”
In college, Schewe was the starter for Georgetown from 2022 to 2023, posting a 20-4-4 record for the Hoyas. The Big East Conference named him Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023, and he earned a First Team All-Big East nod and United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-East Region honors that season. He was a Second Team All-Big East selection in 2022.
A native of Marietta, Ga., Schewe spent three years each with the Atlanta United Academy and United Football Academy in Georgia at the youth level.
Fauroux ruled out for season
Louisville City FC goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a lower body injury at Orange County SC on Aug. 15.
Fauroux made 15 appearances this season for LouCity, including 10 in league play, finishing with a 9-3-3 record. He saved 29 of the 51 shots he faced (56.8%) and totaled two shutouts.
“This isn’t how I wanted my first season with the club to end, but my focus is now on recovery and coming back stronger,” Fauroux said. “I’ll be supporting the team every step of the way and can’t wait to be back out there representing this club. Thank you to everyone who has supported me this season.”
The 30-year-old Frenchman signed with LouCity from Loudoun United in January.
“We are disappointed for Hugo. He has worked extremely hard since arriving here in January and has become a key part of the locker room over those months,” Bird said. “What we know about Hugo is that he has an incredible drive and dedication to the game, and that he will come back from this injury stronger. We will be supporting him along the journey and look forward to his return.”
“I feel awful for Hugo. His injury cut short the makings of a very positive second half-season,” Budnick said. “Hugo is a good pro, I know he will fully commit to his rehabilitation and get back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
