Interim head coach Simon Bird has selected his first Louisville City FC lineup after taking the job one day ago. LouCity takes on Southern Indiana FC in the first round of the 111th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lynn Family Stadium.
Hugo Fauroux will make his club debut, playing for the first time in 2026 as he returns from injury. In USL Championship play, Fauroux has made more saves (302) than any other league goalkeeper since 2022.
The back line features two players deputizing in unusual roles. Sam Gleadle, typically used as a forward since joining LouCity, will play left wingback where he played previously in his career. Carlos Moguel Jr., usually a midfielder, moves to the back line as a center back.
Captain Kyle Adams will anchor the back line, with 17-year-old Brandon Dayes set to make his third start of the season next to him.
Babacar Niang will make his full LouCity debut, after playing one minute off the bench in last week’s win over Miami FC. Zach Duncan will start next to him in the midfield. Reigning USL Championship Player of the Year Taylor Davila is not in the squad for Wednesday’s Open Cup game.
The front three includes Quenzi Huerman, who will start at Lynn Family Stadium as a LouCity player for the first time, as well as Ray Serrano, who scored from outside the box on Saturday. Tola Showunmi returns to the starting lineup after not featuring over the weekend.
On the bench, Chris Donovan, Jansen Wilson and Mukwelle Akale have each already found the scoresheet in 2026, while Jake Morris and Sean Totsch supplement the back line.
An annual national tournament featuring teams from all levels of American soccer — from Major League Soccer down to amateur teams — the U.S. Open Cup features a prize pool including a $1 million purse and a place in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup, an international competition similar to the UEFA Champions League.
Southern Indiana FC is based in New Albany, Indiana, and competes in the Premier Division of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), a semiprofessional league. The club has operated since spring 2024.
The winner of Wednesday’s game will advance to a second-round matchup on March 31 or April 1. Clubs from Major League Soccer will join the competition in the round of 32.
