2022: LouCity’s captain of multiple years — and a local favorite out of the University of Louisville — is under contract for a seventh year in purple.
Last Season: DelPiccolo tallied a career-high nine goals in 2021 thanks to shift from a central midfielder to an attacking midfielder in head coach Danny Cruz’s high pressing offense. He recorded two braces, one in a April 24 season opener against Atlanta United 2 and the second in a 3-1 Oct. 3 victory over New Mexico United.
Highlights in purple: DelPiccolo enters 2022 ranked second in both appearances (161) and minutes (12,072) played for LouCity. A welcomed playoff force, DelPiccolo played every minute of the club’s 2017 campaign, earning the USL Championship’s game MVP honors as LouCity won its first star. While boasting a team-leading 2,039 passing attempts in 2018, the midfielder was one of three player-coaches appointed to the “Triumvirate” to lead in the interim until John Hackworth arrived to Louisville. In 2019, he delivered 118th-minute header in the Eastern Conference Semifinal that pushed LouCity past the Pittsburgh Riverhounds to the club’s fourth straight conference final.
Before Louisville City: DelPiccolo remains in the UofL record books with his 23 assists the most for a Cardinals player. He was drafted 27th overall by the Montreal Impact in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. DelPiccolo’s pro career moved him from the Montreal to New England, Arizona and Charlotte before he signed with LouCity for the 2016 season.
