2022: The midfielder returns for his fifth year in Louisville.
Last Season: Matsoso signed a new multi-year contract ahead of the 2021 season to keep a midfielder deeply connected to Louisville in purple. In his 30 appearances, he led the team in tackles won (29) and netted two goals of his own.
Highlights in purple: Matsoso’s shift to the wing in 2021 had an immediate impact. LouCity was 1-3 since the 2020 season restarted amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but his third-minute steal led to a looping cross in and headed goal by teammate Devon “Speedy” Williams in a 1-1 draw against group-leading Indy Eleven was the catalyst for a 13-game unbeaten streak. Matsoso also led LouCity with 41 tackles that season.
Before Louisville City: The 24-year-old defensive midfielder was born in Lesotho but raised in Louisville, where he attended St. Francis before playing collegiately for the University of Kentucky. As a Wildcat, Matsoso scored 19 goals and racked up 20 assists on the way to earning NSCAA Second Team All-American honors. Following a successful collegiate career, the midfielder was selected as the 31st pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution. More recently, Matsoso spent time with Mississippi Brilla in the USL Premier Development League, the same club that produced LouCity defender Oscar Jimenez.
