The United Soccer League has named Louisville City FC’s Ray Serrano as its USL Championship Player of the Week, forward Chris Donovan and defender Kevon Lambert to its USL Championship Team of the Week and interim head coach Simon Bird as USL Championship Coach of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
This season, LouCity players have been selected for the USL Championship Team of the Week 22 times. Serrano joins Jansen Wilson as the only two Player of the Week selections for LouCity this season. Bird’s Coach of the Week honor is the first of the year for the club.
Serrano tallied his first-career hat trick in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Indy Eleven. In addition to his three goals, Serrano totaled six shots and completed 73 of 79 passes (92.4%), all game highs. His eight league goals this season equal Jansen Wilson for most on the team and also equal his career high set in 2024.
Donovan took totaled three assists on the night, setting up two of Serrano’s goals as well as Kevon Lambert’s first-half strike. That total equals the USL Championship single-game record. With seven assists in league play this season, Donovan is second to Taylor Davila on the team.
Lambert scored in the win and led LouCity defensively with nine clearances. He also won two of his four aerial duels, leading the team.
In leading LouCity to the win, Bird wins Coach of the Week for the first time. The 4-1 win over Indy marked the largest margin of victory in a league game under Bird, who took the helm two games into the season following the departure of Danny Cruz. It was the second-largest margin in his tenure in all competitions, behind a 5-1 Prinx Tires USL Cup win at Union Omaha. Overall this season, Bird has a record of 18-10-9 since taking over on March 17.
Louisville City FC returns to action Wednesday night at Sporting JAX. With a win, LouCity would clinch a top-four finish and a home playoff game.
The boys in purple return home for the regular season finale on Saturday, Oct. 24, versus Detroit City FC. The game is Silent Disco Night at Lynn Family Stadium. For tickets and more information, click here.
