Louisville City FC forward Thomas Weinrich has left the club to begin his college career.
The 18-year-old Weinrich signed with LouCity on a USL Academy contract, which allowed him to train and play with LouCity’s senior team while preserving his collegiate eligibility. He will join the IU Indy Jaguars men’s soccer program.
“I’d just like to say thank, you first of all, to my teammates. Without them, I’m not anywhere near where I am now as a player, but more importantly, as a person,” Weinrich said. “A massive thank you to all of the staff from the coaches to everyone who worked with the team for being there for me throughout the whole year. I wish the guys the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
A 5-foot-10 right-footed attacker, Weinrich joined LouCity from the LouCity Academy in February, after traveling and playing with the senior team in preseason. A regular in the game-day roster, Weinrich did not make a competitive appearance for LouCity this season. He did come off the bench in a friendly against the Trinidad and Tobago national team in July and played in multiple preseason exhibitions.
During his time with LouCity this season, Weinrich also played with the club’s USL League Two development team, tallying one assist in 10 appearances.
“We are delighted for Thomas and his family,” LouCity interim head coach Simon Bird said. “Since signing an academy contract with us, he has continued to show growth in all areas of his game and has been an important part of our culture. We wish him the best and are looking forward to watching him closely with IU Indy.”
A Louisvillian, Weinrich attended the Louisville Collegiate School and competed on the Titans boys soccer team, where he served as captain. Weinrich finished his prep career with 77 goals and 49 assists, giving him the Louisville Collegiate all-time lead in goal contributions and assists.
Prior to joining LouCity’s senior team, Weinrich played in the LouCity Academy. The Elite Clubs National League named Weinrich to its Ohio Valley Conference first team in 2025. He also competed in the prestigious ECNL National Selection game in Richmond, Va.
