Players and front office staffers for Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC participated in Hunger Action Month in September, contributing to organizations focused on eliminating food insecurity in the Louisville community.
LouCity and Racing partnered with Dare to Care, a Louisville-based food bank that started in 1969, to help pack 2,353 food boxes over 156 volunteer hours at the Dare to Care Outreach Warehouse. In all, 18 Racing players, 20 front-office staffers and 21 LouCity players worked over two days at the facility.
“Watching our Hunger Action Month efforts come to life was really exciting,” said Stephanie Burdorf, the community engagement coordinator for Soccer Holdings LLC, the parent company of LouCity and Racing. “Our players and staff put their time and resources together to make a real impact, and it was great to see our fan base get involved with the virtual food drive as well. I’m proud to work for an organization filled with those who believe in giving back to our community.”
In the past year, Dare to Care has provided 21.7 million meals to the Kentuckiana area.
September’s Hunger Action Month is an initiative to donate to local food banks while also raising food security and hunger awareness by using the hashtags #HungerActionMonth and #EndHunger as well as wearing orange.
