The USL Championship on Tuesday named Louisville City FC forward Enoch “Matiti” Mushagalusa its Player of the Week, presented by Konami eFootball, for Week 18 following his hat trick performance over the weekend against New York Red Bulls II.
An offseason signing from Sporting Kansas City II, Mushagalusa became the first LouCity winger and fourth City player overall to record a hat trick, joining Chandler Hoffman, Matt Fondy and Cameron Lancaster in an exclusive club.
Mushagalusa scored three of LouCity’s goals in a 6-0 rout of Red Bulls II, hitting the back of the net in the 32nd, 59th and 64th minutes of the game.
“In every club, you got to earn it — to earn the trust from the guys and the coaches,” Mushagalusa said following his three-goal performance. “Danny (Cruz) trusting me, it’s amazing. I’m glad to play here.”
The Championship’s Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the league.
Mushagalusa earned 47% of the ballot, with fellow boy in purple Brian Ownby taking home 20% after recording two goals of his own to go along with two assists.
This marks LouCity’s first Player of the Week award in 2022.
