Lynn Family Stadium and its parking lots will open this year for the first time during Thunder Over Louisville with programming planned throughout Saturday, April 23, leading up to one of the nation’s largest fireworks displays.
Tickets and parking to Thunder at Lynn Family Stadium — an official Kentucky Derby Festival event — are now on sale at LynnFamilyStadium.com or by searching for the event via SeatGeek. Lots open for parking and tailgating at 7 a.m.; stadium gates open at noon; and there’s no hurry to beat the traffic after the show with doors closing at midnight.
Lynn Family Stadium guests will receive a wristband allowing for reentry to the building. All tickets include access to restrooms, and the stadium’s full array of food and beverage offerings are expected to be on sale.
The 2022 Thunder Air Show, starting at 3 p.m., will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the United States Air Force. This year’s show also returns with a Category 1 aerobatic box, which allows for more of the fast and loud aircraft, as well as demo teams.
At 5 p.m., Lynn Family Stadium’s video board will air Louisville City FC’s away game at the Charleston Battery. Then it’s a countdown to the fireworks with live music from Radiotronic starting at 8 p.m. ahead of the show at 9:30 p.m.
As a Kentucky Derby Festival partner, Lynn Family Stadium will be authorized to sync Thunder Over Louisville’s choreographed playlist to the fireworks. The year’s theme is “The Legend Returns,” a nod to the first full Thunder day since 2019.
With all tickets general admission, guests are permitted to move throughout Lynn Family Stadium to scope out the best view or re-enter after the show. Last call is scheduled for 11:30 p.m.
Located in the Butchertown neighborhood, Lynn Family Stadium opened in 2020 and serves as the home of LouCity (USL Championship) and Racing Louisville FC (NWSL). Managed by ASM Global, the award-winning venue boasts amenities such as free WiFi, device charging stations and an array of premium seating options.
