For his work Saturday in a 1-0 away win over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Louisville City FC’s Brian Ownby was on Tuesday named to the USL’s Team of the Week.
“Ownby was a menace throughout the game down the right, setting up the only goal as Louisville defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds,” the league noted in its announcement.
The midfielder ran up the wing on a counter attack in the seventh minute and crossed a ball into the box. Striker Luke Spencer tapped it in for the game-winning goal, also registering Ownby’s first assist of the season.
The USL listed LouCity goalkeeper Tim Dobrowolski, who made three saves in the second half to preserve a shutout, to its Team of the Week Bench. Dobrowolski is tied for first in the Eastern Conference with three clean sheets.
Ownby, meanwhile, has used his pace to race past defenses in the attacking midfield. The former Richmond Kickers standout leads LouCity in chances created with 15 and crosses at 21.
LouCity sits third in the Eastern Conference standings with a 4-1-3 record, good for 15 points. The club has at least one game in hand on all other clubs in the top seven, and the margin will grow larger with the boys in purple off this weekend.
LouCity will next be in action on May 31 for a U.S. Open Cup Third Round game against rival FC Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium. The winner earns the right to host Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew in the Fourth Round of the single-elimination tournament.
