Each day this past week, we shared a Top 2016 Moment — the most memorable points of last season — at LouisvilleCityFC.com.
- Scott Goodwin’s sweet sendoff
- Hitting 10,000 in attendance
- Starting Cincy rivalry with a win
- Late heroics in the opener
- The 17-game unbeaten streak
And then we asked for a bit of help from the fans. Here are a few responses that stick out…
Paul Conrad: “The win in Cincy was awesome. I didn’t sit with the supporters, I sat amongst a sea of Cincy fans and every time LCFC scored I was out of my seat, losing my mind and it was magic!”
James Pizzolato: “After that first Wednesday game with massive rain delays I was shaking hands with the players from the stands after the whistle. Enrique (Montano) makes his way to me and goes, ‘Where’s your daughter?’ My response was, ‘It’s one a.m. On a Wednesday and she’s six, cut me some slack!’ I’ll never forget that moment. Enrique had always been a favorite of mine, but that one of our players knew his fans so well that he immediately noticed my typically-present daughter wasn’t with me and asked about her was special. You don’t get that with MLS. When I told her about it in the morning, my kid was so excited. She just kept asking me to tell her the story over and over.
“Out of all the great moments we’ve had in our first two seasons, that one is my favorite. It shows the character of our team, the relationship they have with fans, and why supporting local soccer is such a worth-while investment.”
Dion Walker Sr.: “Our son Matthew Walker is 13yrs old & currently fighting ALL Cancer (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). Tarek Morad & Aodhan Quinn came to visit the pediatric cancer wing in Norton’s Children’s Hospital (formerly known as Kosairs).
He was having a rough week when they showed up and everything turned around for him after that visit.
“We were able to make 5 out of the last 6 home games after that. It was a huge uplifting mental boost for Matthew as it gave him and our family something other to look forward to besides the nightly Chemotherapies and other lows of fighting pediatric cancer.
“He looked forward to going to the games to watch the team play & talking to the players after every home game. It, in his own words, made him feel normal again.
“That personal touch this team has with its fans is invaluable.
“Can’t wait until next season! They truly do it #ForTheCity.”
