Louisville City FC and iHeartMedia have partnered to extend the run for the area’s first soccer-specific radio show into the offseason.
“Soccer City,” presented by LouCity, will continue airing Saturday mornings on AM 790 WKRD through at least January. The program covers both Louisville City FC and soccer on a more broad scale.
“With the overwhelming response to Soccer City on 790 WKRD, Louisville City FC and iHeartMedia have decided it should continue in the offseason,” said Tony Vanetti, show host and sports director of the iHeartMedia Kentucky/Indiana region. “Please listen every Saturday and show support and the passion you have for soccer.”
Hosted by Steve Peake, “Soccer City” will hit the airwaves on Nov. 5, 12 and 19; Dec. 3, 10 and 17; as well as Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28. This Saturday’s show goes live at 8 a.m., but it regulalrly airs at 9 a.m., with archived versions available at LouisvilleCityFC.com/soccercity.
“The interest and engagement with Soccer City has been outstanding and supports the desire for more soccer-specific content,” said LouCity president Amanda Duffy. “I’m thrilled to continue our partnership with iHeartMedia and look forward to building on it as we prepare for our third season in a sport that continues to experience rapid, significant growth.”
“Soccer City” got its start in June, when Vanetti said, “This town deserves a radio show dedicated to soccer, and iHeartMedia and Louisville City FC are teaming up to make it happen. This is just the beginning.”
An extension on the show’s run coincides with the United States Men’s National Team’s Nov. 11 game against Mexico in World Cup qualifying. The University of Louisville’s teams are also gearing up for their respective postseason runs, while European leagues are in full swing, too.
Lance McGarvey, the public address voice for LouCity, and local soccer expert Keith O’Loane have served as regular voices. LouCity’s offseason will also present the opportunity to bring players and coach James O’Connor into the iHeart studios.
“Keith, Lance and I have enjoyed providing commentary on the state’s only soccer-specific radio program,” said Peake, the host. “We appreciate all those who have helped put this together, been a guest on the show or spent their Saturday mornings with us by tuning in on 790 WKRD.”
