After helping launch the latest edition of ReSurfaced and its 5-A-Side soccer field, Louisville City FC will continue its partnership with the project through October, promoting growth of the game downtown at the corner of Liberty and Shelby streets.
Thursdays in October are LouCity Nights at ReSurfaced, when the club’s supporters are encouraged to form up teams and hit the pitch for fast-paced, high-scoring 5-A-Side play. Captains can sign up their teams — as many as 10 per side– at citycollaborative.org/loucity. The games will run from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
Along with soccer, ReSurfaced offers a selection of local food and drink, with entry free and open to the public. Ramsi’s Cafe on the World was selected as food and beverage operator for ReSurfaced’s fall season; additionally, new Brown-Forman bourbon brand Coopers’ Craft has a presence for tastings and custom-built bar in one of many shipping containers used in The Liberty Build’s design.
LouCity staffers will be on hand to sell playoff tickets during the club’s United Soccer League postseason run. Additionally, fans can enter to win vouchers good for the 2017 season.
Located on a three-quarter-acre lot, ReSurfaced is a product of The City Collaborative group, which worked recently to lay field turf for the 90 foot-by-60 foot pitch. Shipping crates serve as goals on the artificial turf. 5-A-Side by nature allows for shorter, engaging and accessible games in metro areas.
LouCity’s Front Office and the Louisville Coopers kicked off the first game at the new pitch on Sept. 8; the club took a victory thanks to appearances from coach James O’Connor and his assistant, Daniel Byrd. After that, other members of the community took to the field for a successful opening night, the type of evening LouCity intends to recreate every Thursday in October.
